Our Mission

The Path Project serves as an information and advocacy center for minors facing difficult pregnancy choices. We help teens under the age of 18 navigate the courts so that they can make decisions about their own reproductive health care.

ABOUT

Created in December 2005, the PATH Project serves as an information and advocacy center working to help ensure that teens under the age of 18 have fair and equal access to legal services when they're faced with difficult pregnancy choices. The project helps pregnant teens navigate the court system and obtain a judicial waiver of the parental notification law.

Florida law recognizes that parental notification may not be in the best interest of every pregnant minor, and provides a judicial bypass exception in certain cases, including child and sexual abuse. The PATH Project assists minors who, because of their unique circumstances, cannot inform a parent of their decision to obtain an abortion.  Our goal is to empower teens to make decisions - based on their best interests - about their own medical care.

In July 2010, the law regarding the appointment of lawyers to represent minors in these proceedings changed, and the information on this website will be periodically updated as the ACLU learns more about how the courts are appointing attorneys.

PathProject.net Web site is produced by the ACLU of Florida.
