Our Mission

The Path Project serves as an information and advocacy center for minors facing difficult pregnancy choices. We help teens under the age of 18 navigate the courts so that they can make decisions about their own reproductive health care.

FOR ADVOCATES

Florida's parental involvement law allows teens to go to court to request a waiver of the parental involvement requirement. Teens already are more likely than women in their 20's or older to have abortions later in pregnancy, and parental involvement laws only cause further delays. Our goal is to promote the health and safety of teens by ensuring they have access to the courts. The better the court system works, the fewer delays and the safer the teens will be in the long run.   Even short delays can increase the risk to teens' health.

That's why we need your help to empower pregnant teens to make decisions about their own medical care.  We need lawyers to help them navigate the court system and obtain a judicial waiver if they're unable to tell their parents about their decision to have an abortion.

The "lawyers" section on the left contains information geared toward attorneys who would like to volunteer to represent minors who are seeking to petition the courts for a waiver of the state's parental notification requirement.  It provides them with "best practices" on how to navigate the judicial system in various circuits throughout Florida.

The "volunteers" section on the left contains information for people who are not lawyers, but who'd like to serve as lay advocates for the teens. We need your help in screening helpline calls for legal referrals, compiling statewide resources for teens and assisting the PATH Project with various administrative tasks at our Miami-based office.
