Call the PATH Project helpline for free legal help.
The Path Project serves as an information and advocacy center for minors facing difficult pregnancy choices. We help teens under the age of 18 navigate the courts so that they can make decisions about their own reproductive health care.
If you are under the age of 18 and think you may be pregnant, visit a licensed healthcare facility (such as Planned Parenthood) for a pregnancy test, or take a home pregnancy test. It's best to find out right away. The sooner you know, the more time you'll have to make choices about what you want to do.
If a pregnancy test shows that you're pregnant, there are three options available to you: you may choose to continue the pregnancy and become a parent; you may continue the pregnancy and make an adoption plan; or you may choose to terminate the pregnancy through abortion. Abortion is a safe and legal medical procedure.
Deciding what to do about an unplanned pregnancy takes time and careful thought. Your decision will likely be based on many factors including where you are in your life, what you believe and what your needs are. It helps if you have someone to confide in - a parent, close friend or relative who can provide ongoing support for whatever decision you make.
You can also view the Pregnancy Options Workbook which many women find useful while considering their options.
